Congratulations are in order for the now Sir Patrick Stewart — star of stage, television and film (who, most notably, played the iconic character Captain Jean Luc Picard in the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series and film franchise) — because he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in an award ceremony in the UK yesterday. Here is a photo of Stewart’s knighting ceremony and some deets from the event:
Actor Sir Patrick Stewart paid tribute to a former teacher as he was knighted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The 69-year-old said he owed “literally everything” to the English teacher who first encouraged him to perform. “Although many people in my life have had great influence on me, without this man none of it would have happened,” he said following Wednesday’s investiture. The classically trained actor is best known for his roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men films. He was recently seen on the London stage appearing alongside fellow actor knight Sir Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot. Sir Patrick said his knighthood – announced in the New Year Honours List – had been “an unlooked-for honour”. “But as I grew up as a child, falling in love with the theatre and Shakespeare, my heroes were Sir Laurence Olivier [and] Sir John Gielgud,” he continued. “The knights of the theatre represented to me not only the pinnacle of the profession but the esteem in which the profession was held. To find myself, to my astonishment, in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me.” The Yorkshire-born star said he would be celebrating his knighthood with Cecil Dormand, the teacher who first encouraged him to consider acting as a profession. “He was the one that put a copy of Shakespeare in my hand [and] said, ‘Now get up on your feet and perform’.” Earlier this week it was announced that Sir Patrick would chair a jury and deliver a talk at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival. The actor was recently seen at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester playing William Shakespeare in the Edward Bond play Bingo.
I must admit, we don’t get much news of all the knighting that goes on in the UK here in the US but as far as I’m concerned, Sir Patrick Stewart is just the kind of man that I would expect to be honored as a knight. His career has been a stellar one and I have loved every single project that he has been involved in. As Capt. Picard, Sir Patrick Stewart won the eternal love of Trekkies the world over … for that reason alone, the man deserves to be a knight. After the jump, check out a couple more photos of Sir Patrick Stewart at yesterday’s knighting ceremony …
To me, Stewart represents the best of British Theater and it just thrills me to no end to see him honored in this way. I was very lucky to see Stewart perform live on the Broadway stage a couple of years ago in a new production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and he completely blew me away with his stunning performance. I’m just so pleased for him! I think a hearty congratulations are surely in order!

Betty White, the last surviving Golden Girl and dear friend of Rue McClanahan, has issued a personal statement concerning the death of our dear Rue. Despite the pain that she is feeling today in the wake of Rue’s sad passing, Betty has this to say:
“Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that’s even possible.”
I know many of us are still reeling from the news of Rue’s death today but I cannot for the life of me imagine what Rue’s death means to Betty White. It’s clear there was a strong bond of love and friendship between these two ladies … it’s just heartbreaking to deal with Rue’s death and consider Betty’s pain. We are all hurting today … my thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Rue’s family and friends.

Last month we learned that M.I.A. has decided to title her new album /\/\/\Y/\ and give it a release date of July 13. Right now we get our first look at the album’s cover artwork:
Clearly a lot of work went into the creation of the album art for /\/\/\Y/\ … and it’s also very clear that M.I.A. is a big fan of You Tube. To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of M.I.A.’s album artwork before … and this is no exception. That being said, it’s all about the music for me so ugly album art or not, I’m really looking forward to the release of this new disc. What do y’all think of the /\/\/\Y/\ album cover? Do we like?

Here are a few photos from this weekends SaTC soiree in Japan:
Despite a few negative reviews of the film, I think fans of the series (and, more importantly, of the characters) have been loving the film … and now it’s the Japanese fans’ turn to enjoy Sex and the City 2. I’m not entirely certain but I think this may be one of the last stops on the SaTC ladies’ world tour to promote the film. Last January there was a report going around that plans to film a third SaTC movie might go into production very soon after the release of SaTC 2. Because the lovely ladies aren’t getting any younger, it makes sense that they would want to get to work on a third (and final?) film. But, considering how rough the reviews have been, I understand they might put the kibosh on plans for a third movie altogether. I, personally, would LOVE to see another movie … so long as they work a bit on the story. Let the ladies stay in NYC and do what they do best … that’s what needs to happen if another movie is made. What do y’all think … should the powers that be move forward with another Sex and the City movie or should they put the entire franchise to bed and end it right now?

Cameron Diaz sat down with British Vogue for it's July issue and dished about everything from sex to plastic surgery to A-Rod.
On keeping herself looking and feeling young:
"The fountain of youth [for me], let's see...I guess it's exercise, healthy diet, lots of water, lots of laughter, lots of sex -- yes, sex, we need that as human beings. It's healthy, it's natural, it's what we are here to do!"
Do you agree? Do you think a lot of sex will keep you young?
She also shared that she won't rule out plastic surgery - never say never.
And she says she's resisted plastic surgery -- for now. "Yeah, well, hey. I'm not doing anything right now," she tells the mag. "But we'll see. So far, so good. But I'll never say never to anything."
They tried to get her to admit to her relationship with Alex Rodriguez, asking her if she was in love:
"You know what? Yes I am. I'm in love with life."
Nice try by the interviewer, but I don't imagine Cameron will give up any details about this romance.
She also says that she's loved playing the gold digging character in the upcoming "Bad Teacher".
"I'm having the best time playing her," she says. Her character "doesn't give a s*** about anyone but herself. I'm sure we'll offend everyone with it, which is great."
I'm REALLY looking forward to this movie!

Well thank goodness they cleared all of that up for us!! We must have been confused earlier as to what homosexuals did behind closed doors! Phew!

All right…you sort of can't help but laugh due to the sheer insanity of it, but it's still so unfortunate that this kind of misrepresentation still exists in the world!
