Britney Spears' Big 2011: From A Smash Album To A Ring On Her Finger

A decade into her career, the pop megastar reinvented herself this year as the ultimate Femme Fatale and made a big commitment to Jason Trawick.

Maybe <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>' lucky number is 30. The singer turned 30 this year, marking the landmark birthday on December 2 with a fan-voted MTV News tournament that crowned <a href="/news/articles/1675289/britney-spears-tournament-winner-30th-birthday.jhtml">the Best Britney Video of All Time</a>. More than a decade into her career, Spears re-emerged as a <a href="/news/articles/1675474/britney-spears-femme-fatale-favorite-album.jhtml">Femme Fatale,</a> giving fans a fist-pumping album, embarking on a flashy tour and dropping more memorable music videos. Britney Spears fandom was reenergized as the singer came out of her shell, opening up about this phase in her career as well her personal life in several high-profile interviews. So it's probably not surprising that Spears will cap off the year at #4 on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1676177/newsmakers-2011-lady-gaga-amy-winehouse.jhtml">Top Newsmakers of 2011</a> list, just behind Lil Wayne. "When I was younger, I was busy, busy, and I was always singing and dancing all the time. I was just really creative," she recalled in the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/638813/britney-hits-the-studio-with-william.jhtml#id=166112">MTV special "I Am the Femme Fatale."</a> "That's when my mom realized I'm a really creative person." She let that creativity shine over the past 12 months. But no vid stirred up as much controversy as her <a href="/news/articles/1672795/britney-spears-criminal-video-director.jhtml">"Criminal" clip</a>, which featured real-life boyfriend <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">(now fiancé) Jason Trawick</a> — and his abs. "At the end of the day, Jason killed it," Piliero told MTV News of Trawick's cameo. "That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, 'Wow, he's not an actor. This is going to be interesting,' but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I'm a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, 'I'm gonna make sure that you are awesome,' and he was." The competition was heated but in the end, Spears' iconic "I'm a Slave 4 U" took home the prize. Jennifer Lawrence's "Hunger Games" Miami Mall Visit

With just over two weeks left until her much-awaited movie hits theaters, Jennifer Lawrence stepped out for another stop on "The Hunger Games" National Mall Tour in Plantation, Florida on Thursday night (March 8).

The blonde beauty was certainly a hit at The Westfield Broward shopping center locale, as she was swarmed by autograph-seeking fans while joined at the event by co-stars Alexander Ludwig and Amandla Stenberg.

In the book-based film, which is slated for a March 23rd release date, Miss Lawrence plays the lead character of Katniss Everdeen - who happens to be an ace markswoman, something in which Jennifer definitely was not prior to assuming the role.

To get ready for the bow and arrow featured scenes, the 21-year-old was placed under the tutelage of four-time archery Olympian Khatuna Lorig - who told Hollywood.com of being asked to become Lawrence's teacher, "When they called me, they told me, ‘We want to make her look like a professional, to shoot like a professional."

"So, I’m like, ‘Okay, let me give a try. Let me meet the girl,’ [to see] how she looks, physically, and how she does," Lorig recalled, adding that Jennifer was a "strong-looking girl" and "very outgoing personality, very outspoken, very happy."

Khatuna continued, "From the beginning, I told her, ‘Listen. If this is going to work, we’re going to do it in a professional way.’ It’s a physical sport—even though I had her with a very light, barely 20-pound or 18-pound Olympic style wooden bow for her. She was getting sore. I think she was working out in the morning, then coming shooting with me, then going to work out again."

In the end, Miss Lawrence was well-prepared to shoot her markswoman scenes for "The Hunger Games," with Lorig adding, "I told her I would be very proud when I see her onscreen. I told her, I’ll see her on the screen and say, ‘That’s my student!’ And you know what she said? She said, ‘When I see you in the Olympics, I’ll say, ‘She’s my coach!’’

Conrad Murray Not Expected To Serve Full Four Years

Legal expert Mike Cavalluzzi tells MTV News he isn't surprised by sentence but doesn't think it's justified.

Though he dodged a potential four-year prison term, former <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a> physician Conrad Murray was sentenced to an equal amount of time in Los Angeles County Jail on Tuesday (November 29) in the death of the pop singer. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:714975.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div> But the same overcrowding problems that spared the cardiologist from doing time in a federal pen might also save him from serving his entire sentence in county as well. Shortly after the <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">sentence was handed down</a> by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, Los Angeles Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore told <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/jackson_family_reacts_conrad_murrays/277336" target="_blank">E! News</a> that Murray would likely end up serving "a little less than two years." Due to overcrowding, most county jail sentences are immediately cut in half, and given the 46 days credit Murray has already been given, he is looking at even less than that. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mtvnews/posts/199210760161755" target="_blank">Do you think Conrad Murray deserved the maximum sentence? Let us know on Facebook.</a> Murray's lawyers said afterward that they believed the sentence was unnecessarily long. "Yes, of course [Judge Pastor] was harsh. He gave the stiffest penalty he was entitled to give under the law," Murray's attorney, J. Michael Flanagan, told reporters. "He was openly hostile. ... [Murray has] led 56 years of exemplary life. He was really dreading [sentencing]. I think anybody would dread going into it. He's an honorable man, and he'll get through this. The family is suffering more than Dr. Murray is. ... Dr. Murray is the provider in that family." Pastor had leeway in the sentencing, with options ranging from probation to the full sentence, but in a lengthy ruling from the bench, he said Murray's lack of remorse and negligent behavior called for the highest possible penalty. "He is and remains dangerous ... the request of probation is denied, the court imposes the high term of four years imprisonment in this case," Pastor said during the 90-plus-minute hearing. Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney Mike Cavalluzzi told MTV News that he wasn't surprised by the sentencing but that he didn't believe it was justified. Cavalluzzi said Pastor had incentive to give the full sentence because of the prominence of Jackson and his family and to create the perception that he is tough on crime. "He gets that perception by sentencing him to the max while not having to surrender the defendant to the full sentence," said Cavalluzzi, who was not involved in the case. "He gets the self-satisfaction of being perceived as being tough on crime and making the Jackson family happy, but I don't think it was a fair sentence." Cavalluzzi said when deciding prison versus probation, judges have to look at someone's criminal history and whether a person is likely to complete the terms of their probation, which he believes Murray would. "I'm not seeing aggravating factors here, and I think it was just a chapter in [Murray's] life and he does not have a history of being a mercenary doctor always after money, but of being a good, responsible doctor who was seduced by the celebrity and money that Jackson offered," he said. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:708788.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div> As to why Pastor gave such a dramatic, lengthy explanation for why he was sentencing Murray to the max, Cavalluzzi said the judge has to have a justification for his actions in the public record. "Because he doesn't have the discretion to give a high prison term, [Pastor] has to justify his sentence in the record and have very specific reasons for it. I don't think there's any way that anyone truly believes that from this day forward Dr. Murray truly represents a threat to society. That's just ludicrous." And while he doesn't agree with the four-year term, Cavalluzzi said the high-profile nature of the case and the glare of the media could have played into the sentence. "It probably gives [<a href="/news/articles/1675068/conrad-murray-sentencing.jhtml">Jackson's family</a>] great comfort to have someone to blame," he said. " 'If not for this awful man, my son, brother, father would be alive.' But it's not fair to do that and it feels like a capitulating judgment in favor of feeding the emotional needs of the family." Upon leaving the courthouse, Michael's brother Jermaine, when asked if the four-year sentence was enough, shook his head and said, "No." Mother Katherine Jackson told local TV station KTLA, "Four years is not enough for someone's life. It won't bring him back. But at least he got the maximum, and I thought the judge was very, very fair." The prosecution, however, was satisfied with the ruling. "We're pleased. That's what we thought was appropriate. The judge obviously agreed with us," deputy district attorney David Walgren said. "It was our position that it was not a simple, one-time mistake; it was a series of mistakes culminating in the abandonment of Michael Jackson when he died ... the judge agreed with that sentiment. A brother and a son and a family member was killed, and whatever the sentence may be, the family of the victim deserves justice. And we did everything to bring them that justice." As for how much time Murray will spend locked up, Cavalluzzi said it is likely to be less than two years and, frankly, he predicted, the doctor could be out even sooner than that. "He might be eligible for house arrest very quickly," he said.

'Justified' Villain Backs The Winning Side

'He's a bit of a wiseass, and he thinks he's above them all,' Neal McDonough tells MTV News about playing the bleach-blond big bad on the show.

"Justified" lawman Raylan Givens has faced no shortage of memorable nemeses in his days as a Lexington, Kentucky-based U.S. marshal: hoodlums with "four kidneys," an "apple pie"-brewing and weed-slinging mama crime boss, not to mention the born again and born again and born again Boyd Crowder.

But Robert Quarles? In a sea of backwoods Kentucky killers and thieves, this bleach-blond mobster may very well take the cake.

Television veteran and "Captain America" actor Neal McDonough has graced the FX drama "Justified" with his formidable presence for the show's currently airing third season, and viewers are better off for it — even if deputy Givens, the modern-day cowboy played by lead actor and producer Timothy Olyphant, is ruing the day that McDonough's Quarles first set foot in Harlan County.

"It's like two great chess players in the same room," McDonough told MTV News about this season's ongoing battle between Quarles and Givens. "We both learn about each other. We've done our background checks on each other. So we both know we're worthy opponents — but when we get in front of each other, it's pretty awesome, because we're on the opposite sides of the spectrum, but there's a respect level for what each of us does. We're both really good at what we do. But there's also that ultimate disrespect from both of us: 'Don't think you're going to beat me. I'll let you dance with me for a while, but I'm going to crush you.' "

Quarles has already dished out some crushing blows. In just eight episodes, the Detroit mobster has dropped by Raylan's home unannounced, executed the deputy's ex-wife's ex-husband (it's complicated), framed Raylan for the murder and set him up as a dirty cop. None of that mentions Quarles' other atrocities, such as fatally shooting a businessman and his secretary mainly to prove a point, as well as brutally torturing a prisoner while simultaneously fielding a phone call from his very young son. What kind of monster can commit such crimes, you ask? According to McDonough, a very funny one.

"He has a bit of a sense of humor," said McDonough, who has played other villains with significantly fewer wisecracks to their names, including those in "Walking Tall" and "Street Fighter." "This one, Quarles, his tongue is firmly in cheek in a lot of scenes. He's a bit of a wiseass, and he thinks he's above them all. To play that, and then have him unravel, trying to keep that veneer up, is what makes it really fun for me to play."

Indeed, the walls are closing in on Quarles. Raylan Givens is not his only obstacle: Quarles is now completely cut off from the Detroit crime syndicate he once worked for, and is starting to abuse the illicit pain pills he's been pushing in Harlan County.

"He's a lot like me in a lot of ways: a businessman, but family first," McDonough said of his character. "But Quarles gets addicted not just to the rush of power, but worse, to OxyContin. We all know how bad that gets when you're hooked on junk like that."

Just how bad will Quarles' addiction get? The actor teased, "The only thing I've asked of ['Justified' executive producer and show-runner] Graham Yost is that by episode 10 or 11, I'd like to be naked and hopped up on my own stuff. He goes, 'Already thought of that, trust me!' "

"Justified" marks the third collaboration between McDonough and Yost, having previously worked together on "Boomtown" and "Band of Brothers." In fact, Quarles was written specifically with McDonough in mind, said the actor, who added that he would happily work with Yost on any project, anytime, anywhere.

"If Graham Yost called me and said, 'I have a three-minute infomercial to shoot in Bulgaria, are you in?' I'd say, 'Yes, what time is the flight?' " he said. "Graham tells me what to do and I do it. He gives me the juiciest stuff I can imagine as an actor."

The juicy stuff isn't always cruel and unusual, either. McDonough teased an upcoming scene that shows a "beautifully altruistic" side of Quarles that he described as one of his top moments of the season.

"There's one scene in particular where a young boy comes into my trailer threatening to kill me," said McDonough. "How I disarm him, not just physically but emotionally ... it was maybe my favorite scene of the year. It's just simple, emotional, truthful acting. Graham lobbed it in the air for me and I hit it out of the ballyard for him."

In short, to say that Quarles is an astounding addition to the "Justified" rogues' gallery would be a tremendous understatement — and given where the character is headed in the back half of season three, it appears that we haven't seen anything yet.

"The first half of the season was great," McDonough said. "But the second half ... the second half is money. It's fantastic for me as an actor."

Freshly renewed for a fourth season, "Justified" airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.

SXSW 2012: Top 5 Anticipated Crowd-Pleasers

'21 Jump Street,' 'Cabin in the Woods' and 'Killer Joe' are sure to create a buzz at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas.

We're just a few short days away from the start of the annual South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas, and just like the 17 years of action-packed programming that have come before it, this year is no different. Some fun food for thought for fact fans: This year, there will be 132 feature films playing at 10 venues, 12 hours a day for nine days. There are 74 world premieres, 17 North American premieres and 11 U.S. premieres, with 58 films by first-time directors, all of which were selected from some 5,271 submissions, a 7 percent increase over last year.

Impressed yet? We've been poring over the official SXSW schedule for weeks in an effort to highlight the most noteworthy and buzzworthy films in this year's lineup, narrowing the list from 132 to the five films we anticipate being the biggest crowd-pleasers. In no particular order, here are five films that are sure to have people talking:

"Cabin in the Woods"
All you really need to know about this film is that it comes from the brain of Joss Whedon and that it's a genuine horror movie. The official description bills it as such: Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods, bad things happen — which just about sums it up, except for the fact that a lot of mind-blowing things occur, and it's a horror film that should make as big a splash as "Scream" did in 1996. Cast: Kristen Connolly, Fran Kranz, Anna Hutchison, Chris Hemsworth, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.

"Killer Joe"
The SXSW-specific selling points of this film are easy. First, Texas golden boy Matthew McConaughey plays a crazy contract killer. Second, the plot revolves around a desperate Texas debtor (Emile Hirsch) who plots to kill his mother with help of his family (Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon), who are asked to offer up their teenage daughter (Juno Temple) as a retainer to hire the hitman. Third, the film just landed an NC-17 rating for all of its gratuitous violence. Bonus highbrow fact: The seemingly crazy story is based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy Letts' ("August: Osage County") award-winning play.

"21 Jump Street"
Yes, this is a big-screen reboot of a very popular TV show from the '80s. No, it does not star Johnny Depp, but he might make an appearance. "21 Jump Street" is the biggest, most-buzzworthy name on this list, chiefly because of all the positive, uproarious feedback from copious advance screenings. The movie is the epitome of a crowd-pleaser, with a talented all-star cast: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Rob Riggle, Ice Cube and plenty more. In a nutshell, it is the story of two mediocre new police officers who are sent to work undercover at a high school to try to infiltrate its troublesome drug ring. The film has just about everything: action, adventure, laugh-out-loud comedy and a little bit of romance, plus some killer surprise cameos.

"Big Easy Express"
This film is almost quintessentially SXSW in that it fully captures the spirit of what the festival is all about, exposing people to different aspects of art, culture and commerce. Directed by Emmett Malloy, who also helmed the White Stripes doc "Under Great White Northern Lights," "Big Easy Express" features folk music-friendly bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show as they travel from Oakland, California, to New Orleans on an eight-day railroad tour/musical adventure in the summer of 2011. It's a film that is full of warmth, good music and good vibes that will make you feel like a part of the party while sad that you missed it. Bonus fact: The bands are making the trek to Austin for a special performance event pegged to the film's premiere.

Super Secret Screening / The Entire Midnighters Series
The Super Secret Screening is not actually a film title, but a placeholder for the fest's much-buzzed-about special-event film presentation that has been around for 15 years. This screening is always a big hit because it involves a very high-profile guest and a crowd-pleasing film, which is more often than not a highly anticipated upcoming release. Also, the SXSW folks have fun with its listing in the program: "Director(s): Can't tell you. Producer(s): Who knows? Screenwriter(s): Your guess is as good as mine. Cinematographer: Someone amazing. Principal Cast: Great actors." The Midnighters series, of which the Super Secret Screening is a part, is worth a mention because these 11 or so films are usually genre-friendly and outside the box, most of them graphic and violently so. The Midnighters this year are: "The Aggression Scale," "Citadel," "Girls Against Boys," "Intruders," "Iron Sky," "John Dies at the End," "Modus Anomali," "[REC] 3: Genesis," "The Tall Man" and "V/H/S."

Paul McDonald Hoping To Pen A 'Twilight' Song

Nikki Reed's 'American Idol'-alum husband wants to submit songs for 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' soundtrack consideration.

Newlyweds Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald gave MTV News an exclusive look at their latest labor of love on Tuesday — the video for their first musical collaboration, "Now That I've Found You." And while "Twilight" star Reed didn't necessarily see the sweet ditty ending up on the "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" soundtrack, she did reveal that husband McDonald is in the early stages of submitting a song for potential inclusion in the saga's final installment.

"Paul has been speaking with them about potentially attempting to write something," Reed said. "Nothing is set in stone. He will be working on songs to submit. It would be a great, great thing. The music supervisor [Alexandra Patsavas] on that, as well as [director] Bill Condon, have great taste."

"It's very preliminary," McDonald confirmed. "It's kind of one of those things. I write all the time."

Over the past four years, the "Twilight Saga" soundtracks have gained a reputation for catapulting artists to new heights, with acts like Paramore, Christina Perri and Joy Formidable all benefiting from their confab with the Cullen clan. And as the former "American Idol" contestant looks to join that auspicious group, he's beginning by doing his homework.

"I watched some of the movies the other day," he said. "I hadn't gotten around to watching all of them, so I'm getting familiar with the story lines."

"He's trying to say he wasn't a Twi-hard before knowing me," Reed teased.

Included in his prep work will likely be an artist's screening of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," which doesn't hit theaters until November 16. In the meantime, McDonald is working on his album, which he expects to drop early this fall.

'Dark Shadows' Photos Reveal Faithful Fashion

Vanity Fair character portraits prove Tim Burton is sticking with the aesthetic of the '60s series.

Another week has passed, and we still don't have a "Dark Shadows" trailer. For those keeping tabs, we're just over two months out (70 days, to be exact) from the scheduled release of Tim Burton's campy vampire blockbuster. But to whet increasingly impatient fans' appetites, in this month's Vanity Fair, Burton and company have released some character portraits of Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard and Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman.

The images — which are not yet available on Vanity Fair's website but you can see here — are nothing we haven't seen before. But hey, at least it means Warner Bros. is doing some promo, right?

Taking a close look at the portraits — and, really, we might as well, because there isn't much other "DS" material to stan over — it's striking just how close Burton and costume designer Colleen Atwood have kept Depp's big-screen styling to the Barnabas that "Shadows" series creator Dan Curtis developed for actor Jonathan Frid all the way back in 1967. The more we see of Depp in character, the more we're reminded of Frid, who also appears in the film.

"Johnny's very open about what things are in the process, but he really lets people present things to him. He never really pushes at all," Atwood told MTV News late last year about Depp's costuming for "Shadows."

"Sometimes he doesn't even look in the mirror in his fittings. It's so funny. It's pretty amazing. People would be surprised, because I think they have this image of Johnny, because he's so stylish always, but he really feels his costumes, more than looks at them, and the movement and the feeling in them is really important."

From the hair and pale, monstrous makeup to the penchant for 18th-century bling, it's kind of amazing how closely Burton is hewing to the look already established for the characters in the late-'60s series. And that's true of nearly all the key players in his adaptation: He's taken famed brunette Eva Green blonde, as Angelique (played by Lara Parker) was on the show, given Bonham Carter's eccentric Dr. Julia Hoffman the same sweeping '60s 'do worn by Grayson Hall and has Pfeiffer sporting dark, regal ensembles similar to those worn by Joan Bennett to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.

One notable exception is Chloë Moretz, who plays Carolyn Stoddard in Burton's "Shadows." In both the original '60s soap and the short-lived early '90s revamp, Carolyn is portrayed as being in her early 20s, but Moretz's Carolyn will be, like the actress in real life, 15 years old.

Indeed, Burton made a command decision to avoid the sexy vampire cliché that has become pervasive in movies these days. That he did so when his star is arguably one of the sexiest movie stars on the planet is especially commendable. Depp is far from what we deem traditionally sexy, but we still think he's weirdly alluring. Such is the power of the Depp, we suppose.

Fox's song-and-dance series "Glee" is no stranger to a star-studded cameo or two, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, John Stamos and Kristin Chenoweth all walking the halls of McKinley High during the past two and a half seasons. And as the show returns from a month-long hiatus, Gleeks aren't the only ones anticipating a few more famous faces. As star Chris Colfer told MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet, there's plenty to look forward to when New Directions warble again January 17. "Well, the Michael Jackson episode ...," Colfer answered when asked about his most-anticipated upcoming episodes. "We have a Spanish episode coming up with Ricky Martin. The actor/singer recently <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ricky_martin/status/155141894333140993" target="_blank">tweeted</a> a joyful picture from his first day on set. As to how the King of Pop's prolific songbook will manifest itself in the January 31 tribute episode, Colfer explained, "Well, I sing part of 'Black [or] White.' I'm the 'White' in 'Black [or] White,' and I sing 'Ben,' that famous song he wrote for the rat." The rodent in question is the pet of a young boy named Danny in the 1972 film "Ben." Jackson sang a version of the theme song that appeared in the movie's closing credits and was later included on his 1972 album also named Ben. Earlier this week, British music mag <a href="http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=1&title=the_most_pretentious _albums_ever&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1" target="_blank">NME</a> set out to determine the "10 Most Pretentious Albums Ever." The list includes (genuinely pretty terrible) conceptual fare like Kiss' Music From "The Elder," Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and, uh, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a>'s Born This Way, which somehow bested all competitors to nab the #1 spot. How? Well, as NME writer Priya Elan wrote, "On Born This Way, [Gaga] seemed to believe in her own hype, convinced she had a message to share. Cue an album of unwieldy 'anthems' that couldn't mask the fact that the fun had left the building." Elan singled out the thumping "Scheiße" as BTW's most pretentious moment, adding, "Did electroclash die for this?" Snap. As you'd probably expect, those jabs had Gaga's Little Monsters on the offensive, and they launched an all-out attack on Elan in the comments section of NME's website. But Gaga herself remained above the fray — for a while, anyway. On Thursday night, she took to her <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/172828595134267392" target="_blank">Twitter account</a> to hit back at NME, a publication that's certainly been <a href="http://i28.tinypic.com/2vwzpfp.jpg" target="_blank">no stranger to charges of pretentiousness</a> over the years. "Oh the irony of winning 'Most Pretentious Album Ever' from none other than NME. *Eye roll,*" Gaga wrote. "I might laugh forever [and] then return to narcissism." Double snap. Having sufficiently eye-rolled her way through the situation, there's been no further comment from Gaga about the list. NME, of course, has since turned the exchange into <a href="http://www.nme.com/news/lady-gaga/62233" target="_blank">a separate story,</a> one which, for whatever reason (word count?), includes recent comments Gaga made about bulimia ... and spaghetti. *Eye roll.*

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/romeo_santos/artist.jhtml">Romeo Santos</a>, the former lead singer of the popular bachata group <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/aventura/artist.jhtml">Aventura</a>, has taken a new step in his career, venturing out on his own as a solo artist. Mixing his signature bachata flair with some R&B, he is showing fans a whole new side on his debut album, Formula, Vol. 1. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:734074" width="240" height="211"></div> Hoping to spread his unique sound and style to a mainstream audience, Santos enlisted <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lil_wayne/artist.jhtml">Lil Wayne</a> for his latest single, "All Aboard." "This song 'All Aboard,' that tune allowed me to expand and kind of offer my audience something totally different because it's not bachata — I'm singing English and that was really fun," Santos recently told MTV News. "I was a little nervous about that, but people actually really accepted it." Santos and Weezy recently shot the video for "All Aboard" in Miami; he called the clip "sexy," "seductive" and "elegant," but also revealed that this collaboration came very close to not making his album. "I was just like, I like the song but it's missing something, and at first I couldn't figure out what it was," Santos said. "What we did was we left 16 bars open, and I was like, you know, who would rip this track? Lil Wayne. So we reached out. It barely made the album because he's a busy dude, so he actually got on the record two months after we submitted it. It was like, if we don't get his vocals in the next two days we hit, and we got it, so we made it and the song is just really great." Wayne isn't the only artist Santos pulled in for his album. On his last single, "Promise," he teamed up with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>, who last week joined him onstage at <a href="/news/articles/1678993/romeo-santos-solo-tour.jhtml">Santos' first of three sold-out shows</a> at New York's Madison Square Garden. "I felt at that moment once again I was going to revolutionize bachata 'cause it was the first time that you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata," Santos said. "It was a big deal."
