Comedian Greg Giraldo's death, reportedly due to an accidental prescription-drug overdose, has struck a chord throughout Hollywood. But friends and family will be able to pay tribute to the late stand-up Friday night, as the time scheduled for his performance at New York's Governor's Comedy Club will serve as his memorial.
TMZ reports that the manager of the Levittown, New York, club plans to pay homage to the beloved comedian.
"We just want to commemorate his life," the manager told the website.
Friday's public ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 p.m., the exact time the comedian was supposed to hit the venue's stage.
In homage to the performer, the club will play his DVDs on its television screens. While there won't be an admission fee, donations for Giraldo's family will be accepted.
The comedian, who was well-known for his performances on Comedy Central Roasts and late-night talk shows, died Wednesday, after an accidental prescription-pill overdose last weekend. He had been hospitalized in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he passed away with his family by his side.
Giraldo's friends took to Twitter to send their well-wishes and remember the late comedian.
"Greg Giraldo may you RIP. My thoughts & prayers go to his family, friends & fans," tweeted Dane Cook.
Another fellow stand-up comedian, Patton Oswalt, also remembered the 44-year-old by suggesting that Giraldo's talent will live on, even in heaven.
"Really, Universe? Greg Giraldo? F--- off," he tweeted. "Just went way out of my way not to drive past Laugh Factory. If I see Giraldo's name on that marquee, gonna lose it." And, "If there's a heaven then Einstein, Asimov, Voltaire and Anne Frank are getting the sh-- roasted out of 'em tonight. #giraldo."
Share your well-wishes for Giraldo's friends and family in the comments.
