Last night the LA Lakers managed to pull of a last second win over the Phoenix Suns to take Game 5 (and the 3-2 lead) of the Western Conference NBA Finals and a host of celebs were in the hizzy at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, CA to root for the home team … including soccer stud and super dad David Beckham. Here are a few photos that show the range of emotions emoted by Becks during last night’s game:

His injury means he is thousands of miles away from the England training camp. But luckily, David Beckham has found something to take his mind off the World Cup. The footballer was fired up over an LA Lakers basketball match this week and joined in with the locals hollering as his team won a crucial match. The LA Galaxy star, 35, is resting up after an injury to his Achilles tendon which has taken him out of the England squad for the World Cup. But as the team flew off to their Austrian training ground this week, Beckham was not slumped in the doldrums. Instead he was cheering on his basketball team alongside celebrities such as Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Lakers won a narrow 103-101 victory in the dying seconds of the game. With less than a second on the clock, Ron Artest banked a final shot at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles yesterday. The defending champions were tied with rivals Phoenix Suns during the fifth match of the NBA Western Conference final playoff series. The team now have a 3-2 lead over the Suns in the best-of-seven series and are one game from the NBA finals. Other stars at the match included Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and actor Zac Efron. Beckham has been spotted looking more relaxed recently, with beer in his hand at Lakers games and spending time with his wife Victoria and three children Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. And he will still be joining the England squad in South Africa. He won’t be training the players on the pitch but will be there as a confidant for the players as part of England’s backroom staff. Arsenal winger Theo Walcott said yesterday: ‘Just having him around, giving you advice, one of the best crossers of the ball, can only help. The most important thing he says is just enjoy it, play with no fear. And if you are young and play with no fear the best comes. It’s a shame his injuries mean he won’t have a chance to play in a last World Cup and he is a big miss. But he is going to help the players by being around and boosting their spirits.’

Aww … poor Becks. Welp, if he can’t really partake in the upcoming World Cup Tournament play, at least he can take part of the exciting sports festivities that are going on here at home in SoCal. At dinner with Darion last night, we were able to watch the last seconds of last night’s game and were very happy to watch the Lakers pull that win out of the fire. With 0 seconds on the clock, Artest’s hoop made most of Los Angeles erupt in cheers! It was a really exciting end to a nailbiter of a game. If the Lakers win Game 6 on the road in Phoenix, then we very likely will not get to see Becks sitting courtside for the Lakers anymore … he’ll prolly be in South Africa if and when the Lakers advance the the NBA Finals. It’s a shame the Lakers are losing having Becks in the hiz, I’m thinking he was a pretty great good luck charm.
